- Date To 16th October 2025
- Location University of Southampton, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Highfield Campus, University Road, SO17 1BJ and online.
Overview
Join us for a hybrid event hosted by the University of Southampton exploring one of the most pressing challenges facing today’s energy sector: how traditional oil refineries can adapt to the energy transition while striving to deliver lower-carbon fuels.
Our keynote speaker, Tom Nixon, brings over 23 years of experience in the petrochemical industry, with deep expertise in refinery operations and profitability. In the past four years, his focus has shifted to the urgent task of decarbonising oil refineries and developing viable alternative fuels. He will share insights into the technical, economic, and operational hurdles faced by refineries, as well as the opportunities to drive meaningful change.
This session will also provide an opportunity to connect with our local member group, continuing the momentum built at our May launch event. Attendees will be able to engage in discussion, share perspectives, and strengthen professional networks in this critical area of energy transformation.
Whether joining in person at the University of Southampton or online, participants will gain valuable understanding of how the sector is responding to the transition toward a lower-carbon future.
